Green Built Home is a national award winning green building initiative that
reviews and certifies new homes and remodeling projects that meet sustainable
building and energy standards. The program is implemented in partnership
with local building associations, leading utility companies, and organizations
that promote green building.
Currently, there are nearly forty regional green building programs in existence
nationwide from Vermont, to Florida, to Hawaii. Green Built Home is the only
such program in the upper Midwest and was founded in 1999 by Wisconsin
Environmental Initiative (WEI) in partnership with the Madison Area Builders
Association.
Green Built Home is administered throughout the state of Wisconsin and
reaches thousands of homebuyers and builders through collaborations with
builders associations and other affiliated organizations. Support for Green
Built Home comes from builder enrollment as well as organizations that
promote green building and energy efficiency for Wisconsin.
Today, people are increasingly aware of environmental issues as they relate
to home building. Energy efficiency, resource conservation and improved
indoor air quality are increasingly important considerations in buying a new
home or remodeling an existing home. It takes time, however, to research the
latest green building design, technology and materials, and deciding which
measures are most important can be a difficult task. Green Built Homes
provides this priority ranking of measures to reduce the environmental
impact of home building while making homes safer, more comfortable,
and more durable.
