From cozy quarters to spacious lodgings, keeping a clean home is the chore that just keeps giving and giving and giving. Luckily, there are plenty of ways to make your home easier to clean– especially if you don’t have a helping hand! These 5 tips may seem simple, but they are sure to make cleaning your home a bit more effortless.

1. Declutter

Easier said than done, right? The fact is simple, though – the less you have in your home, the easier it is to clean. Take stock of what you have and try to declutter your space by getting rid of things you don’t use anymore. From furniture and clothes to old sports or gym equipment, there’s always something to pass along to someone else. You can always donate unused items or sell them on Facebook Marketplace, Craigslist, or have a good old-fashioned yard sale! 

2. Clear Surfaces

Homes can feel messier than they are when things are scattered around on every surface. Make it a habit to keep counters, bookshelves, and other surfaces clear of unnecessary objects, paperwork, etc. When you have a clear surface, it’s easier to dust and polish everything to your liking. 

3. Keep It Up

Get things up off the ground and into cabinets and other storage spaces! A home is much easier to keep neat and tidy when you have space to move around. Don’t let things pile up on the floor– and that includes laundry! Make a habit of putting things where they belong (i.e. laundry baskets, etc.) and resist the urge to toss them on the ground. Additionally, choose elevated furniture that you can store things under and easily clean under!

4. Durable Furniture

One of the best ways to make a home easier to clean is to invest in durable furniture. From leather and stain-resistant fabrics to washable couch covers and cushions, durability will save you so much time in the long run! Plus, invest in pieces that are easy to move around (lightweight, have wheels, etc.) so you can move everything out of the way when cleaning in those tight corners and spaces.

5. Create Storage 

Again, creating storage spaces and designated areas in your home for specific items will help you significantly when it comes to cleaning. Keep control of small and frequently used items, and utilize hanging hooks to keep everything from electronics to hats easily accessible and off the ground!

Additionally, keep your favorite cleaning products on hand at all times and easily accessible. From dish soap and laundry detergent to mop pads and more, knowing you have all of these products will make it easier for you to be diligent about keeping a clean home. And don’t forget to have fun with it! Blast your favorite jams, do a little dance, and make cleaning a fun party rather than a tiresome chore.
